POLISHING (BURNISHING)
CAPABILITIES

POLISHING (BURNISHING)

LONG BAR & TUBE

Additional surface enhancement through polishing (also known as burnishing) can provide even higher surface quality over turn only product. Many applications require this additional surface quality which is attainable in long bar form. By combining turning and polishing, T&P bars offer a reliable and cost effective solution for a wide range of applications that require high quality surface finish and dimensional accuracy. Turned and polished product can provide cost saving opportunities with regard to quality and material utilization, as it can be cut to length, providing a tight tolerance processed blank at or close to finished part dimensions.

Advantages of Turned and Polished Bars:

  • Improved Surface Finish: The polishing process results in a smooth and aesthetically pleasing surface, typically 20 Ra or better.
  • Enhanced Machinability: The smooth surface reduces tool wear and improves cutting efficiency.
  • Better Dimensional Accuracy: Turning allows for precise control over the bar’s diameter and shape.
  • Reduced Scrap Rates: The consistent quality of T&P bars minimizes waste during machining operations.
  • Improved Fatigue Strength: The removal of surface defects can increase the fatigue strength of the material.
  • Facilitates Testing: Smooth surface quality facilitates tightest surface defect inspection via Eddy Current inspection.

  • Automotive Components
  • Aerospace
  • Precision Machining
